Social Skills

Some children have a different way of interacting with others.  Unfortunately, society's reluctance to accept this can lead to friendship problems, teasing, bullying and peer manipulation.  Many people learn to mask and put on an act in social settings, pretending to be someone who they are not, in order to be accepted.  This can lead to emotional problems, anxiety and depression.

At Speech Plus Speech Pathology we value the neurodiversity of our children and don't wish to change who they are, nor do we want to teach them to mask.

We believe in teaching children the language of emotions and how to express these to others, the importance of finding friends who have similar interests, two-way conversations and understanding that we are all unique individuals who have equal value in society.
