FAQs
01
Funding options such as NDIS, Medicare and Health Funds might be available to you. Follow this link to read more about it.
02
Do I need a referral?
No, you don't need a referral to attend appointments at Therapy Plus Child Development Centre. The only time that a referral is needed, is if you are wanting to get Medicare rebates. This is explained further in topic 1.
03
I can't get in to a Speech Pathologist or Occupational Therapist. Can I see an ECP instead?
Yes, this works well when you are on a waitlist for a Speech Pathologist or OT. ECPs can successfully implement programs following on from speech or OT assessments. Our ECPs have additional training in speech and OT areas and are well-placed to implement these programs. Furthermore they have their own professional expertise that will benefit your child.
04
Do you have a waitlist?
Yes, we have active waitlists for speech pathology and occupational therapy. This is particulary extensive for after school appointments. Being available to attend the clinic during school hours will increase your likelihood of getting appointments.
Assessment appointments are sometimes available during school holidays. Children who are eligible for early childhood services are encouraged to see an ECP while they wait for a speech pathologist or OT.

05
Will you visit my child at school or home?
Our ECPs will sometimes visit children in their childcare settings or school, with added travel fees. Alternatively they can hold appointments in the clinic.
Speech pathology and occupational therapy services in Cairns are usually only provided in the Redlynch clinic.
By attending appointments at the clinic you can save money on the travel fees that would otherwise be charged.

06
Do you visit surrounding areas?
Our Occupational Therapist provides fortnightly services to Mareeba and Innisfail.
Our Speech Pathologist Sam visits the Mossman area. She is currently on leave, due to return in July 2025.
07
Do you run programs in school holidays?
Yes, our Early Childhood Practioners run specialised school holiday programs, which target developmental goals within a play-based curriculuum. These are open to children who are current clients, children on the waitlist and children who are new to our practice. They are designed for children who present with delays and will benefit from extra support. They are not intended as a general holiday program for typically developing children.
The programs change each holiday period so contact us to find out what is on these school holidays.
08
Are you hiring?

We are always keen to hear from interested Occupational Therapists, Early Childhood Teachers and Speech Pathologists who may be interested in working with us.
