Comprehension
Otherwise known as receptive language, this is the ability to understand what people say, including vocabulary, sentences, directions and questions. You might notice that your child can't remember long directions or doesn't answer questions properly. You might have regular disagreements because of misunderstandings.
We will assess your child's ability to understand oral language. We can then identify which areas need support and help to fill in the gaps.
When children have difficulty understanding oral language, they usually also have difficulty understanding what they read. Sometimes reading comprehension difficulties are the first indication of receptive language difficulties. We can also assist with reading comprehension.
The Raising Children website contains useful information about language development and strategies that you can use at home.
